IRS ECONOMIC IMPACT PAYMENT FAQS

Q: Am I eligible to receive an Economic Impact Payment?
A: Most Americans qualify. Click here for a list of exceptions. If you meet all of the criteria below, you are eligible to receive the full payment:

  • U.S. resident filing as an individual, head of household, or married filing jointly
  • Are not a dependent of another tax filer
  • Have a work eligible Social Security number
  • Have an adjusted individual gross income up to $75,000, a head of household income of $112,500, or a married filing jointly income of $150,000

If you meet all of the above requirements excluding income range, you’re eligible for a reduced payment as long as your adjusted gross income is:

  • $75,000 to $99,000 for an individual
  • $112,500 to $146,500 for a head of household with one dependent
  • $150,000 to $198,000 for those married filing jointly with no dependents

Each additional dependent raises the upper range by $10,000.

Q: How much will I get?
A: Those who are eligible for the full payment (see above) will receive $1,200 per adult and $500 for each child under the age of 17. Those who qualify for a reduced payment will receive a check reduced by $5 for each $100 above the $75,000, $112,500, or $150,000 thresholds. For example, if you are an individual filer with an adjusted gross income of $80,000, you will receive $950.

Q: Will my check come in the mail or be deposited into my account?
A: If you filed a tax return for 2018 or 2019 and chose to have your refund directly deposited, the IRS will use that information to deposit your stimulus check. If you chose to have your refund mailed instead, the IRS will send your stimulus check to the mailing address listed on your return.

Q: When will I receive my check?
A: The IRS began sending out payments in mid-April. Paper checks are expected to begin mailing in early May.

Q: What do I need to do in order to get my check?
A: If you’ve already filed your 2019 tax return, filed a tax return in 2018, or are not typically required to file a tax return, then there is most likely no action required on your behalf. For details on special circumstances, visit irs.gov.

Q: Am I able to view the status of my check?
A: Once checks begin to go out, you can view the status of your check using the Get My Payment app.

Q: Will I be notified when my check is sent out?
A: The IRS will mail a notification within 15 days after the payment is made. If you are expecting your check via direct deposit, make sure you are enrolled in online banking and have deposit notifications activated on your account to receive an alert.

Q: As a Wintrust customer, am I able to deposit my check from home?
A: Yes, you can deposit your check remotely using your smartphone through our online banking app. Learn more about making remote deposits here.

Q: Am I still able to make a deposit at the bank?
A: Yes. The majority of our branch drive-ups are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. For a full list of branch availability, click here.

Q: I’m not a Wintrust customer. Am I able to cash my stimulus check through one of your banks?
A: At this time, check cashing services are available to Wintrust Community Bank customers only. If you’d like to learn more about opening a checking account online, click here. Using a checking account to cash your check is a faster way to receive your money and helps to avoid check-cashing fees.
